We have done many weddings here, so we know the ins and outs of everything wedding related!  We are more than happy to try new ideas, the more out there the better, we do love a challenge.  With so many wedding venues out there, we have developed some questions to help you understand how we work.  Thoresby Weddings is unique and with so much to consider we want you to have all the facts.  This list will help if you are starting to plan or are attending a wedding with us! Venue

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED?

Yes, we love tiny humans, Individual by Design can provide highchairs if needed, or let us know if space should be left for a pram at the table. The low-level lighting is child-friendly and we have a number of suppliers you can hire from soft play, to craft and games, though you can never go wrong with some bubbles! We also have baby change facilities located in the disabled toilet and in the ladies’ toilet.

CAN I GET MARRIED AT THORESBY?

Yes, you can get married on our estate, we have a few options for ceremonies at Thoresby. We work with North Notts’ registrars who conduct our civil ceremonies, which take place in our Riding Hall, we provide the contact details for you , you will need to tell them your wedding venue and date and they will provide a time and cost of the booking. Take a look at our gallery for examples of how beautiful the room can look for a civil ceremony.

If you are looking for a church wedding, St. John’s Church in Perlethorpe is a stunning church on our estate and only a 15-minute stroll through the park for your guests, and a dreamy route for wedding pics in a wedding car, you can find some amazing pictures in our gallery.

Alternatively, if you are already married and wanted a unique blessing with a celebrant or just the reception we can accommodate some exciting options for you as well.

CAN MY GUESTS PARK OVERNIGHT?

Yes.  We have ample free parking for guests.  Cars can be left overnight and collected the next day.  They are left at the owners risk so please do not leave valuables.

DO YOU DO OUTDOOR WEDDING RECEPTIONS?

We have acres of parkland that you are able to hire for wedding receptions in Marquees or Ti-pi weddings.  We work with a great local marquee hire company to create your dream outdoor wedding venue.  There are a number of locations that would be suitable for this option and these are bespoke to the size and needs of your wedding, for this reason outdoor wedding bookings should come for a visit and then request a quote.

DO YOU RECOMMEND PHOTOGRAPHERS?

We have worked with some excellent photographers over the years and many of them are feature in the Gallery .

Photography is a very personal choice, our best advice is to research the style of photography you like from wedding blogs, featuring real weddings to get a good idea of story you want to see in your wedding pictures.

Your photographer will be with you the whole day so you will need to get on very well and feel comfortable with them, so meeting them face to face is recommended.  We can vouch for the ones featured in the gallery we have spent many hours with them on wedding days making very special memories.

HOW DO I BOOK MY THORESBY WEDDING?

First, check we have your desired date available here.

Second, come for a visit & fall in love with the venue and speak to the team about reserving your date.   We can save a date for you for free for two weeks, to allow you time to work out a wedding budget and speak to caterers about catering costs as this will be the next big part of your budget.

Once you are happy with the costs, we take some details from you to draft paperwork, and send your deposit invoice.  once we receive the paperwork and deposit your Thoresby Wedding is booked.

HOW MUCH IS THE DEPOSIT TO BOOK?

We require a 25% deposit to secure your wedding booking.  We can save your date for free for two weeks while you confirm costs with catering, this ensures you have a sound idea of the wedding costs before paying a non-refundable deposit.

I HAVE A RELATIVE IN A WHEELCHAIR WILL THERE BE ADEQUATE FACILITIES?

Certainly, we have a large disabled toilet and ample disabled parking – a space can be reserved if you let us know, and there are no steps to navigate anywhere at the venue! The Church St Johns also has a ramp at its entrance.

IS THE VENUE HEATED?

Yes, the Riding Hall has some striking large radiators that keep the hall nice and warm in winter months, in the summer months the thick walls of the Riding Hall keep the venue nice and cool!

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGES?

The packages are the foundations for you to build your wedding on. Everything can be customised by you, so the options in addition to the packages for you to consider and add are;

  • Catering
  • Bar packages such as a welcome drink (a cash bar for you and your guests is included in the packages)
  • Entertainment
  • Accomodation
  • Additional venue decoration is up to you, the venue is yours to decorate, we have some wonderful suppliers to help create your dream wedding.
WHAT’S THE VENUE CAPACITY?

Venue capacity at Thoresby Weddings:

  • Civil Ceremony- 120
  • Seated Dinner- 60-180
  • Evening Celebrations- 200

These numbers provide ample bar and dance floor space, our Wedding Coordinators can advise on what layouts would work best for your special day

WHEN DOES THE VENUE CLOSE?

The venue is closed and locked up at 1 am.  The bar closes at midnight, entertainment is permitted until 00.30.  We recommend booking taxis for between 00.00 – 00.30.

Planning

ARE WE ALLOWED CONFETTI?

We don’t allow confetti of any kind inside the Riding Hall venue or Courtyard and Car park area.  We have cobbles in the courtyard area that even the biodegradable kinds get trapped in for weeks.

We do allow natural biodegradable confetti in the park and grassed areas.  The Estate church also allows a confetti shot at the gate if you choose to get married there.

 

CAN WE HAVE CANDLES?

L.E.D candles are permitted, unfortunately we cannot have naked flames, meaning tea lights or pillar candles in vases in the building and courtyard area as our beautiful buildings are all grade II listed.  There are lots of affordable alternatives available and look lovely, particularly with the rustic package.

IS THERE OUTDOOR SPACE WE CAN USE?

Yes, you only hire the Riding Hall venue, however our park is there to use for photographs or an outdoors drink reception if you want to spend some quality time outside.

We have a wonderful courtyard area that is available all day, perfect for an informal drinks reception and exclusively yours for 5 pm for evening entertainment.

WHAT DOES THE WEDDING COORDINATOR DO?

Included when you book is a wedding coordinator to look after your wedding booking, support you through planning and be here for you on the day. Our small team of experts will be on hand to answer all your questions and provide solutions for your most ambitious wedding plans.

We liaise with your suppliers to ensure a smooth set up and get relevant paperwork.  We develop timings for your day and ensure all involved know how the day will run.  On the day we are on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly and on time, we take a personal approach and work very closely with our couples to ensure your day is about you.

Its up to you how much you utilise our planning services we can help source suppliers and give advice as and when you need it.  Every wedding is different and everyone handles the planning differently, so whatever your journey we will be here to help.

WHAT OPTIONS DO I HAVE FOR MUSIC?

The Riding Hall Venue has fantastic acoustics, making it a great space for live music.  You are welcome book a band or DJ to entertain your guests we have a list of local talent available to you.

The Venue has a small simple PA system you are able to hire for £25.  This will not be appropriate for evening entertainment but would be sufficient for background music to play during dinner or for your civil ceremony with us. This comes with a microphone if needed for speeches.

WHERE CAN WE GO FOR PHOTOGRAPHS?

We have a stunning rural estate boasting acres of park and woodland, perfect for wedding pictures.  the options are limitless we have beautiful listed buildings to use as a backdrops, farm landscapes and ancient woodland for rustic woodland pictures.

We often have couples come here for a pre-wedding/engagement shoot and still have lots of different options for their wedding day.

WILL I HAVE ACCESS THE DAY BEFORE TO SET UP MY DÉCOR?

If there is nothing booked in the day before your wedding you are more than welcome to come in and set up tables and any additional décor you have. If there is a wedding the day before we will receive your décor from you earlier in the week and go through everything to ensure we have everything we need! We can do practice tables in the weeks before your wedding and work from pictures if you struggle to visualise how your décor will look. We also work with a number of venue dressers that have all the latest trends in wedding décor that can take care of all the trimmings for you! We have a wide range of skills for setting up your décor, our attention to detail is borderline OCD so, we are perfectionists and want everything to be perfect for you!

Bar

CAN I PROVIDE MY OWN BOOZE?

Yes, but we do charge a corkage of £7 per bottle. Sometimes this can save money for example if a relative is gifting you the drinks, or through a large work discount, you are able to do it for less. Mostly our bar provider has a very competitive offer and will save you the hassle of getting the booze to us.

CAN WE ADD DRINKS PACKAGES?

Yes you are able to add whatever drinks you would like to suit your wedding needs.  There are many options available to you so we leave it to you to choose.   There is a cash bar as standard throughout the day, and you pay the bar supplier for any additional drinks you wish to provide for your guests.

Traditionally guests are given a welcome drink, a toast drink and a drink for dinner.  We recognise that everyone one is different which is why we allow you to build your own drinks packages, you may not provide any drinks, or you may offer a free bar on selected drinks the options are endless.

IS CORKAGE ANOTHER WAY VENUES MAKE MONEY?

No, not with us anyway! Some venues may charge a very high corkage to dissuade you from bringing your own alcohol, we are happy to accommodate your wishes. The Bay Tree bar has a very reasonable price list to cover its basic running costs, to have additional tables set up for welcome drinks and the additional staff to serve incurs this cost, none of this fee goes to us the venue.

WHAT IS CORKAGE?

Corkage is the service fee attached to providing your own alcohol and includes the following…

  • Receiving the booze and storing
  • Chilling and the fridge space to keep it cool
  • Glassware, set on tables to serve the drinks in
  • Garnishes or ice required
  • Staff to serve your drinks
  • Disposal of the boxes and bottles

Any unused bottles are returned to you and guidance can be given on quantities you would need for your wedding! All bars and restaurants have inflated prices to cover the additional costs for all of the above, this just means that you can drop your booze off and know everything else is taken care of, perfect!

Catering

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN CATERER?

It is essential that we offer a consistently high standard of catering and therefore only offer our own selection of excellent event caterers, Wrights Catering, Henson’s Catering, Complete Catering & Fiona Herbert Catering.  Each offer an exceptionally high level of service and competitive prices and can cater for specific dietary requirements.

In cases where for cultural reasons external caterers are requested, there is an additional fee, and external caterers will need to be vetted and approved by our events team before booking the venue and paying a deposit.

CAN WE HAVE A FOOD VAN?

Food vans are allowed for evening food and can be driven into the courtyard area.  There are lots of quirky options for alternative evening food and our courtyard space is the perfect place for this to happen.  We have had coffee vans, fish and chip and pizza vans and can recommend plenty of great local providers if you are looking for something different.

Vans are only permitted in the evening and cannot be your main food service, a main meal should be provided by our approved caterers.

HOW DO WE BOOK CATERERS?

Our Caterers information can be found here, we recommend you contact at least two for quotes to get a good idea of costs.  Once you are happy with your menu options and the caterer is available on your chosen day you book directly with them.

Accommodation

IS THERE ON-SITE ACCOMMODATION?

There is no accommodation included with Thoresby weddngs on site, there are however plenty of excellent accommodation options very nearby so your guests will have no problem finding a bed. Please see our Accommodation Page for further information about nearby options.
